Charlie Brantley Obituary

Charlie W. Brantley, 73 of Edwards, MS passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Charlie was a well-known character in Hinds County. He worked many years as a mechanic, both self-employed and for other companies. He took pride in fixing just about any farm implement, tractor, or tool he came across. He enjoyed the challenge of bringing things back to life. Charlie was most often seen riding the back roads, turn rows and highways in his service truck with his beloved German Shepards riding in the back.

He was a collector, putting it mildly. Where others saw a pile of rusted junk, he saw treasure. Whatever concoction of things he hauled home, he made sure to tell about it’s history, where it came from and what its purpose was. He was a story teller and loved to share tales with anyone who would even remotely pause and give the impression that they were listening. There have been countless people who have experienced his gift of gab. The world will be a much quieter, and duller place without his enthusiasm for sharing his stories.

Above all he was a faithful Christian. His faith was abundantly evident through his declining heath. He shared his walk with Christ and what God has done for him with every nurse, doctor, and aid he interacted with. Charlie was truly a walking testimony and wanted to share is story. St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bovina, MS was his church home.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Terry Brantley and daughter Chatty Dunnaway. He is survived by his grandchildren Brantley and Mary Ellen Dunnaway; his sister Minnie Bell Rhoden; brother Mack Brantley; niece Amie Clark, great nephews and niece Ashland Clark, SaraGrace Clark and Shaun Patrick Clark. He is also survived by chosen family members Jesse “Yankee” Dupree and Amanda Evans who were instrumental in his care over the last several years.

Visitation will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home on Hwy 80 in Vicksburg on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bovina, MS on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10:30am with burial to follow in the St. Alban’s cemetery.
