Herbert "Bert" Clark Obituary

Herbert Gipson “Bert” Clark, II passed away on Wednesday, April 3rd. He was 64 years old.

Bert grew up in Cary and graduated from Sharkey Issaquena Academy where he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. He graduated from Mississippi State University. While at MSU, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity where he served as Grand Master of Ceremonies. He also served as the MSU mascot, Bully. He served as an officer of the Sharkey-Issaquena MSU alumni chapter and two terms on the MSU Alumni National Board of Directors.

He loved to tailgate and entertain friends before football games and during baseball games at his rig in the Leftfield Lounge. He also loved the Mississippi Delta and Rolling Fork.

He was an active member of the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Rolling Fork, where he served on the vestry.

He loved his family and especially his son, Gipson, who bears his name.

Survivors include his wife Laura Sneed Clark of Rolling Fork, MS; his son, Herbert “Gipson” Clark, III, of Nashville, TN; and his brother, Eric (Jo Ann) Clark of Ridgeland, MS. He is also survived by his nephew, John Eric Clark, Jr. of Ridgeland, MS.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Gipson Clark and Bobbie W. Clark.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 6th at the Goodman Memorial United Methodist Church in Cary, MS. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. People attending the funeral are encouraged to wear something maroon in honor of the love he had for his alma mater.

Pallbearers will be Paul Hollis, Clark Carter, Glen Herrington, Kirk Hughes, Tommy Miskelly and Bee Estes. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Weissinger, Allen Woodard, Frank Stuart, Clark Secoy, Charlie Darden, Donald Harris, Pat Patton, Pete Fisher, Fred Miller, Jim Dykes, Ward Clements and Thad Virden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chapel of the Cross Rebuild Fund, P. O. Box 209, Cary, MS 39054.
