Dolar Bullard Obituary

Dolar Lemar “Pat” Bullard was born January 25, 1935 in Tallulah, Louisiana. He passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 suddenly at Madison Parish Hospital at age 85.

Pat was a life long resident of Tallulah, Louisiana. As a student of Tallulah High School, he participated in boxing under the tutelage of Mr. Jimmy Yeats. After his return from his four-year stint in the US Air Force, serving in Turkey and El Paso, Texas, he and Libby Reynolds were married in 1960. Ever the disciplined (obsessed) health fanatic, he enjoyed years of running long distance races and playing tennis and golf. In the later years, he was known by all in town by his extensive walks with his dog, Molly. During his final days, he participated in weekly physical therapy and recently returned to his weight bench at home when the Coronavirus closed the doors of the gym.

Pat was an avid reader, ever the student in search of knowledge. He received multiple newspapers and periodicals weekly to keep up with worldly news and enjoyed gifts of the current Atlas to study and second hand novels. The years spent watching his grandchildren and great-grands on the sports field, whether baseball, softball, soccer or track, added many years of enjoyment, even though he was asked once or twice to quiet down or he would be asked to leave the ballpark. He always encouraged his grandchildren in their goals for excellence. Passionate in whatever he chose to do, Pat would throw himself in 100%. At home, he enjoyed gardening, particularly growing roses. He talked to his children and brother often, never ending a phone call without saying “I love you.”

As is common in the Bullard family, Pat was an avid sports fan, particularly the LSU Tigers. He was active in youth sports while the children were growing up. He especially had a heart for helping out kids who didn’t have the resources to help themselves.

Pat retired as Coca Cola Warehouse Manager in Vicksburg, Mississippi after 39 years of service in the Tallulah and Vicksburg plants.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Dolar “Pat” and Bennie Booth Bullard, brothers, W. B. “Pete” Bullard, Sr., Bobby “Duck” Bullard, Henry “Sammy” Bullard, and sisters, Ola Jane, Audrey Melton, and Virginia Caviness.

Pat is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Bullard and their two children, Bobby Lemar (Sherri) Bullard and Donna (Bob) Thomas, grandchildren, Kathryn (Mitch) Reppond, Patrick, Drew, and Anna Claire Thomas, Marleigh and Kelsey Bullard, great-grandchildren, Gracyn, Kennedy, Carlyle, and Thomas Reppond. He is also survived by his brother O. B. “Onward” Bullard of Mountain Home, Arkansas, sisters-in-law, Kathy Bullard of Carthage, Texas and Joan Bullard of Lake Providence, Louisiana, brother-in-law, Gene Caviness of Delhi, Louisiana, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was especially close to Libby’s family, including surviving members, Margo Corulla, Frances and Bill Kennedy, and Bobby and Sally Reynolds. Also left to grieve his loss is his beloved Boston bulldog, Buddy.

Pat’s faith came later in his life, but the forefront of his being. His dedication to St. Edward’s Catholic Church knew no limits. He took pride in his “job” as housekeeper of the facility on a weekly basis. He and Libby traveled to Europe, including a visit to The Vatican, after Pat was a newly confirmed Catholic. His public acknowledgment of his personal faith in Jesus Christ leaves his family and friends with peace at this time.

A live stream memorial mass will be held on the St. Edward's Catholic Church Facebook site Friday, April 17, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. followed by a private graveside service. The online access link for the live stream is https://m.facebook.com/StEdwardTallulah/.

The family is grateful for the many offerings of kindness and encouragement from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Pat’s honor to St. Edward’s Catholic Church or your local youth sports organization.
