Gary Michael Knight

Gary Michael Knight passed peacefully from this earth on November 30, 2019 with the two loves of his life by his side. He was born August 3, 1945 to O.V. Welch and H. A. Knight in Union, MS.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Azalea French Knight, daughter Michelle Burrell, grandchildren and their families, Benjamin, Kaycee, Drake and Rose Burrell, Matthew, Emily, Annie and Davis Burrell and Sara, Samuel and Cecilia Johnson. Brothers Joe and Sherry Knight and Jimmy and Karen Knight. Sisters-in-law Pam Tilley and Missy and Brian Thompson. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary will be remembered as an Educator, Church Elder, Mentor and Friend to many. He loved the outdoors and his cat Frank. He was passionate about Corvettes especially “Smoke”. He will be remembered for his story telling and infectious laugh.

He was an active faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson. He held degrees from Union High School, East Central Community College and a Master of Education form University of Southern Mississippi.

He worked at Chamberlain Hunt Academy for over 28 years, from teacher to President, also teaching at Claiborne Educational Foundation and Port Gibson High School. He was an election commissioner for Claiborne County as well as serving the ECAM in various offices before becoming their president for 8 years.

A day of celebration will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church Port Gibson, MS. A visitation will be held from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M. in the church sanctuary followed by a memorial service at 2 P. M. At the conclusion of the service there will be a reception of reminiscing and story telling in the church annex.
