George Dowdy Obituary


George Thomas "Red" Dowdy went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 6, 2019, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on October 4, 1941 in Tennessee  to Troy and Dovie Dowdy. He worked for Blackburn Motor Company for 32 years. He is affectionately known by the family as “MacGyver” as he could truly fix anything. He loved to fish and work in the garden.


He was an active member of Bovina Baptist Church. Above all things, he had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. He showed that by helping others in whatever way they needed.


He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Dowdy and son-in-law Roy Hill. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Sara Catherine Dowdy, daughter and son-in-law Elisha and Mike Woods, their children Landon, Evan and Kendall, his step daughter Donna Hill and her children Jason Shettles (Kathy), Dewayne Roach (Stephanie), Ashley Barton and Dana Smith; stepson Wayne Shettles(Cecilia) and their children MIchelle Taylor (Daniel), Patricia McHann (Adam), Michael Shettles And Robert Shettles. He has many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by one brother and four sisters. 


The memorial service will be at Bovina Baptist Church, November 8, 2019 at 2 pm. Visitation with the family will be from 1 pm to the hour of the service.
