James Ray Hammond died Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at his residence in Utica. He was 67.
Born and reared in Utica, James lived a number of years in Biloxi before spending the rest of his life in the Utica area. He retired from the Vicksburg Fire Dept. and also retired from the Hinds Community College as a roofing coordinator. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also served in the United States Air Force.
He was a member of the Utica United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. "Jeep" and Louise Hubbard Hammond.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda I. Hammond of Utica; his daughter, Stacy Hammond of Jackson; his 3 step-daughters, Kay Chiasson of Thibodaux, LA, Gail Byrd of Schriever, LA and Tammie Bissonette of Long Beach, MS; his brother, Larry Hammond of Utica and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica with Rev. Rocky Henriques officiating. Interment will follow in the Utica Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alton Chiasson, Ronald Byrd, Kevin Horn, Ralph Sykes, Sammy White and Jason Hammond.
