Marion Jackson “Jack” Sturgis passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 86.
Jack was born in Crystal Springs, MS on February 5, 1933 the son of Charles Logan Sturgis and Ruby Jackson Sturgis. He moved to West Monroe, LA in 1951 and has been a resident of Vicksburg since 1966.
Jack started pouring concrete at the age of 18 and continued until a few years ago. He was a Mason at the 113 Lodge on Grange Hall. He served on the Board of Supervisors, District 5 for 4 ½ years and was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Jack loved fishing, hunting, his church and his church family and read his Bible daily. He impacted so many people.
Jack is survived by his beautiful wife of 60 years, Jean Beebe Sturgis (February 8, 1959); 4 daughters, Lisa Luckett (Jerry), Penny Dement (Mark), Jackie Sturgis (Ray Cobb) and Vickie Williams (Shawn); 6 grandchildren, Jeremy Luckett, Casey Pearson (Jim), Jeffrey Luckett, Angel Luckett, Kaleb Williams (Tiffany), Michael Kinstley (Amber); 10 great-grandchildren, Ariel, Adison, Mackenzie, Lesleigh, Paisley, Lanie Grace, Rielynn, Easton, Jake and John Hayes; brother, Billy Sturgis of West Monroe, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray Sturgis, Jessie Sturgis, Benny Sturgis, Hamp Sturgis, Wilbur Sturgis, Cecil Sturgis and sister Helen Sturgis Wood.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Immanuel Baptist Church.
