Alice Bridges Obituary

“Each day that I serve him, the sweeter He grows. It is with a heart full of gratitude that I can say thank you Jesus so very much that I can call you my Savior…’my all in all’”. - Alice Bridges

While famous for her peanut brittle, millionaires, and her love for life, she most wanted to be remembered as a woman of God.

She was a walking miracle - a recovering alcoholic. She spent the last twenty years of her life with her loving husband James on the mission field - RV style. She was able to see first hand the miracles of her most treasured God. Traveling over 120,000 miles in an RV with her beloved Campers on Mission, she was a Jesus follower.

She was abundantly blessed by God, given the gift of a life lived to the fullest. She was at peace. She wanted her cherished friends and family to know how precious they were to her. Knowing and loving each of you was the success story of her life. A friend is a tremendous thing. You, Loved of God, are not finished. We will meet again, joyfully, on the other side. What a beautiful day to go to heaven.

The beautiful and mighty woman that is sweet Alice Mitchell Bridges, age 77, has died peacefully at home surrounded by wave after wave of love from family and friends on April 20, 2021 after a heroic and graceful battle with cancer. She died as she lived - fearlessly. She was survived by her precious sister, Frances Barnett, her son Raymond D. O’Keefe, and many much loved nieces, nephews, and dearest friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Wylie Mitchell and Ina Evelyn Craig Mitchell; her dear sisters, Christine Frisbee and Rosemary Hearn; her brother Joseph Richard Mitchell; and, her devoted husband James Edwards Bridges, Sr.

She faithfully served with the following organizations: Campers on Mission, Emmaus, Kairos, First Baptist Church of Vicksburg, Gideons Auxiliary, Crossway Baptist, Joy Club, Adult 4 Sunday School Class, and as a lifetime hospital volunteer. The Friday Night Gang also held a very special place in her heart.

She received a call for one more trip. A trip she could not refuse. A final trip from which she will not be returning. This trip comes with a reunion with family and a host of friends where she will be surrounded by His glory, standing in the Son, forever worshipping her most wonderful and awesome God - more than her heart can hold. Can you only imagine?

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 24 at 3pm at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to any of the organizations listed above which she loved so much.
