Alice Elizabeth Hammack Gentry, age 90, of Benton, LA passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026.
Alice was born in Omega, LA on June 6, 1935 to the late Delos Harding Hammack and Carmel Carter Hammack. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wright Gentry. Alice is survived by her children, Anna Laura Watkins (Barry), Sandy Kinsey (Gene), Eddie Gentry (Lanette), Sherma Grisham (James), and Beth Marshall (Garry); grandchildren, Andrew, Julianna, Allen, Lauren, Alexis, Tyler, Jay, Hollis, Gentry, Graham, and Kate, much-loved great-grandchildren, and brother, George Delos Hammack.
After graduating from Lake Providence High School in 1954, she and her cousin Francis Parker George attended Harding College in Searcy, Ark. After college, she moved to Ferriday, LA and began working for Standard Oil Company, where she met her husband, Ed. In 1972 they moved to Harrison, Ark, to buy and run a Dry-Cleaning business. After Ed died, she returned to school to become an RN. She had a long and interesting career as a nurse, such as public-health, VA, psych, and Director of Nursing at a senior living home. She retired in 1999 and enjoyed her family in a beautiful condo on Cypress Lake with her constant companion, rescue dog Abby.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, May 30, 2026 at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah, LA under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers will be Grandchildren Hollis, Gentry, and Graham; Sons-in-law Garry and James, and Cousin Ricky Parker; Honorary Pallbearers Gary Parker, Tommy Safford, and Dean Hammack.
