Annie Nevels Obituary

Our mother Annie Pearl Ashley Nevels was born on October 1, 1937. Pearl was a sweet and kind woman that would turn no one away without food or water.  Mom was a very loving mother and spent a lifetime providing love and care to her children and grandchildren. She worked most of her adult life working as an owner operator in the restaurant business. She raised her children to love one another and to be kind and always stay out of trouble. Once in twenty years you might have seen her sip a drink with an awful look on her face, but she loved her cigarettes. Pearl loved spending time with family and friends drinking coffee. She would light up when any of the children would come over to visit. She believed in visiting and helping the sick. She loved her brothers and sisters. The love she had for her children was unimaginable and that included all her grandchildren and so forth. She was uplifting and helpful when needed, a trusted confidant and a wonderful friend. She enjoyed the simple things in life and quiet reflections. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Nevels, Jr.; parents George and Rosie Lee Vickers Ashley; brothers, George Ashley, Calvin Ashley and Charlie Ashley.

She is survived by her sons, Claude Edward Rees, Jr. (Marcarol) Utica, MS, Jimmy D. Rees (Robin) Vicksburg, MS, Louis Daniel Nevels (Ashley) Guam, Oceania and Tim Nevels; daughters, Deborah Ann Hayes (Peter) Spring Hill, FL.; Sandra Beasley (Tim); brothers, Robert Ashley (Diane), Tildon Ashley (Ailene), Alvin Ashley (Janice), David Ashley (Portia) and James Ashley (Kathy); sisters, Ruth Height, Nell Graham and Agness Anderson (Bill); sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jr Reese, Pete Hayes, Daniel Nevels, JD Rees, Chase Nevels, Reese Rees, Tyler Hart and Cameron Nevels. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Ashley, Alvin Ashley, Tildon Ashley, David Ashley, James Ashley and CL Nevels.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
