Barbara Averett Obituary

It is with deep, heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Barbara J. Thames Averett, 87, of Tallulah, Louisiana.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Crothers Glenwood Funeral Home, Tallulah, Louisiana.

Barbara went to her Lord and Savior on June 16, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn, of 69 years. She is survived by her children, Graling Averett and Kim Price (Fred) and grandchildren, Kirsten Simon (Sobe), Amanda Burns (Josh), and Katie Price.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara will be severely missed by her family and many lifelong friends in the surrounding community.

Barbara J. Thames Averett was born in Madison Parish, August 23, 1937, the eldest child, to Johnnie and Lois Thames. She married and graduated from Tallulah High School. She left Tallulah and traveled the United States with her Air Force husband while raising a new baby. Afterwards, they returned to Quebec, Louisiana, to live and to farm near their families.

Barbara, from a young age, became an experienced farm hand who took on every task put before her to insure the success of their family farm over her entire life.

A consummate bookkeeper all of her life, Barbara used her talent to conduct the family farm business. She served as a public and private bookkeeper to area residents. She also helped to support and promote the soybean industry in the surrounding community.

Barbara was also known as a phenomenal seamstress who was a personal tailor to many in the community for many years. She loved to read and never stopped learning. She participated in the Senior Olympics in south Louisiana. She loved to garden and to travel. She loved outdoor adventures of all kinds and was a lover of all the things nature had to offer.

Barbara was known as our "Honey" and will always be remembered as putting God and family first.

Barbara's family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone in the surrounding communities who contributed to help make her last days as comfortable as possible. This includes Delhi Home Healthcare Services, Crossroads Hospice, St Francis Cancer Center and all of their amazing staff who demonstrated caring professionalism for Barbara.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to Wounded Warriors, Tunnels to Towers, or St. Jude for children.
