Betty Flynn Johnston passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, at University of MS Medical Center.
She was born in Holly Bluff, MS on December 23, 1939, and moved to Rolling Fork, MS at the age of 10. She graduated from Rolling Fork High School and attended University of Southern Mississippi. Betty worked for many years with elementary aged special needs children in Dekalb County Public School District in Dekalb County, GA. She moved to Jackson, MS in 1981 and retired from Mississippi State Hospital where she worked with special needs adults in the hospital’s library. Betty also volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Association MS Chapter. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jackson MS and enjoyed singing in the Reflections Choir prior to moving into Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, William Kelvie Flynn and Alice Scarborough Flynn.
She is survived by her sister, Patty Sue Flynn, two children, Raymond William Johnston (Julia) and Cynthia Johnston Douglas (Bud), and five grandchildren, Katherine Douglas Spencer (David), Emily Douglas Keen (Karl), Rachel Johnston Sanchez (Alex), Ellen Johnston Porter (Jason) and Jackson Joseph Johnston.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in Rolling Fork, MS at Mound Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home with Rev Kevin Bradley of Crawford Street United Methodist Church officiating.
