It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we confirm that our beloved wife and mother, Bobbie Reed Bruce, 78, passed away on July 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Bobbie was born in Terry, MS, to Clifton and Estelle Reed on October 4, 1946, and lived nearly her entire life in Edwards, MS. She graduated from Raymond High School in 1964 and worked for a number of years as a bank teller in Bolton and Clinton, MS, and retired as an admissions clerk at Hinds Community College.
She met her husband Frankie “Lee” Bruce in Gulfport in 1967 while Lee was serving in the Navy. They were married in 1969 beginning a 56-year marriage that was full of love and happiness.
Bobbie was as good of a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend as this world has produced. Never a disparaging word, just support and love for her family, friends, and the world around her.
She enjoyed the many road trips her and Lee took, especially those with her grandchildren, seeing the natural and cultural wonders this country offers. Bobbie also loved to read, collect old books, put together puzzles, and enjoyed a good cup of coffee.
Bobbie was also passionate about music, especially playing the piano and organ, which she played for services at the Bovina and Edwards Baptist Churches for many years. She was a woman of strong faith and an active member of the Bovina Baptist Church congregation, including teaching the adult women’s Sunday School for over twenty years.
She always looked to make the world a better place. An example of this includes her work on multiple medical mission trips in Honduras with Lee.
Bobbie loved life and the people and animals that are in it. There was never a stray cat or wounded critter that she would not take in, and she always saw the good in people.
Bobbie is survived by her husband of 56 years Lee Bruce, son Kevin Bruce (Rachel), daughter Tracie Bruce, brother Clifton Reed, Jr., sisters Jennie Whittaker, and Peggy Walls, grandchildren Ian Bruce, Aidan Bruce, Jackson Bruce, Braeden Riley, Madison Frazier, and Mason Frazier.
Our beloved mom, wife, and friend will be missed by many as she was loved by many.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Bovina Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Parker officiating. A visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. till the hour of the service at the church.
