Bobbie Jean Johnston, 91, passed away on October 9, 2024, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Bobbie was born April 5, 1933, in Oxford, MS to John Clark Bonds and Addie B. Owens.
Bobbie wore many hats over her lifetime and was mostly known for her work in her hometown community of Vicksburg, MS. She was a bookkeeper and social worker for the Salvation Army for 32 years before retirement in 1998. She worked tirelessly serving families through generous donations for food, housing, financial support, and through charitable programs such as the Salvation Army Angel Tree and Red Kettle Campaigns. Not only did she work and volunteer with the organizations, but she was fully engaged in their Church services, was a leader in the Sunbeam and Girl Guard Youth Programs as well as the Young People's Sergeant Major, a Home League women's group leader, and Sunday School Teacher among many other roles. She won the Anne Allen Award in 1990 from the Govenor of Mississippi for her outstanding service and dedication to volunteerism in her community.
At home, she wore the most important hats of all - mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and most recently great-great grandmother. You would never leave her home hungry. She could whip up fresh biscuits and tomato gravy faster than you could blink. She enjoyed spending time with her family and could be found teaching the next generation how to play Dominos, Jacks, or Crazy Rummy. She had a special place in her heart for Warren Central Viking Football and the Big Blue Band.
She is welcomed in Heaven by her parents John and Addie B., her husband Samual Henry "Unk" Johnston, her brother John C. (Aiko) Bonds, Jr., her three sons David Kitchens, Johnny Johnston, and Sammy Johnston, her daughter Dorothy (Steve) Miller, and one son-in-law Dan Goodson.
She is survived by her daughters Jeanne Goodson, Susie (Robbie) Stauts, and her son Paul (Lynn) Johnston, 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson Braylon.
