Bobby Lewis Obituary

It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Bobby Ray Lewis on February 1, 2025. He passed away with his wife of 66 years, Shelby Jean Lewis, by his side.

Affectionately known as “Bobbo” to all who loved him he was born on February 23, 1939, in Utica, Mississippi and lived his entire life in this community. He attended Utica High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball and then went on to Hinds Community College.

Bobby loved sports, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and loved being there to cheer them on. He was an avid fan of the Ole Miss Rebels and Atlanta Braves and could be found watching them play whenever possible.

After college he turned his attention to supporting his family and started his own logging business with his father-in-law, Troy Jenkins where they built the business through hard work and perseverance. He then had the opportunity to work at Kitchens Brothers Mill where he worked until he retired.

After retirement, those who knew Bobby will remember his great love for his family where he always enjoyed family get togethers seeing his children, grands and great grands. He loved to laugh, had a wonderful memory and was able to pass along stories from the past. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Odessell "Buck" Lewis, mother, Louise Lewis, his two brothers Charles Lewis and Mike Lewis, his nephew, Keith Lewis, and his great grandson, Maddox Ray Mitchell.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shelby Jean Lewis, his daughters: Lisa Whatley (Rick), Lori Mitchell (Mark), and Lesley Carter (Christian); his grandchildren, Justin Caldecott (Amanda), Brett Caldecott, Amber Mitchell, Nick Mitchell (Emily) and Connor Carter; his sister, Diane Hutchins (Jake) and brother Bill Lewis, along with numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg; followed by the service.  Rev. Paul McDonald and Rev. Mike Sahler will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Justin Caldecott, Brett Caldecott, Nick Mitchell, Connor Carter, Chuck Lewis and Doug Dotson. Honorary pallbearers are: Jason Jenkins, Dewayne Lewis, Michael Lewis, Jake Hutchins III, Steven Hutchins, Jake Hutchins II, and Adam Lewis.

Bobby’s passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. The family asks that any memorials be made to St. Jude Hospital honoring his love of family.
