Bobby Morel Mathews passed away at his home on Thursday, May 1, 2025. He was 88 years old.
Bobby was born on March 10, 1937, in Jamestown, LA to his late parents Earl Mathews and Bobbie Lavenia Davis Mathews. Bobby graduated from Wiggins High School in 1955. Bobby married Bernice Carter on May 24, 1955. He dedicated the next 70 years of his life to his Lord and Family. He worked for LeTourneau for 55 years. Bobby was an active member and Deacon of Immanual Baptist Church. Bobby started the LeTourneau Volunteer fire Department and was deputized by Sheriff Paul Barrett as a deputy of the LeTourneau Community.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Theresa Bernice Carter Mathews, his parents Earl Mathews and Bobbie Lavenia Davis Mathews and a sister Barbara Jean Parker.
He is survived by his four children Kelvin Mathews, Lynise Chapin-Whatley, Anita Johnson, and LeAnne Mathews-York, grandchildren Larissa Mathews, Carmen Chapin, Jessica Chapin-Reep, Daniel Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Lauren York-Hoda, and Miller Elizabeth York, 10 Great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, and brother-in-law Garland Cook.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Immanual Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00a.m. until the hour of the service. A graveside service will be at 4:00 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Ringgold, LA on Monday, May 5, 2025.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Johnson, Tommy Dotson, Rick Reep, Brandon Marshall, Andrew Marshall, Michael Whitley, and Huntley York. Honorary pallbearers will be Garland Cook, David Cochran, David Thames, Ed Hampton, Charles Whatley, and Marshall Thomas.
Memorials may be made to Immanual Baptist church, Blair E. Baston Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Children's research Hospital.
