Bobby Oglesby Obituary

Bobby Frederick Oglesby passed away Friday, January 13, 2023. He was 88 years old.

Mr. Oglesby was born May 11, 1934, in Meadville, Mississippi to Frank and Myrtis Oglesby. He was raised in Franklin County, graduating high school as a multi-sport athlete, excelling in both baseball and football.  After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, spending time in Germany with the occupation forces during the 1950s. Following his service, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a bachelor’s degree and met his wife, Patricia Oglesby.  Mr. Oglesby spent a majority of his career at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant, retiring after 20 plus years, and throughout those years, had many passions including working with the special Olympics, participating in his local B.A.S.S fishing chapter, as well as dedicating time to the boy scouts, and coaching little league baseball.  Following retirement, Mr. Oglesby spent his time traveling the country, driving their motorhome to every continental state of the US (with the exception of Rhode Island) and, outside of his home state of Mississippi, Alaska was his absolute favorite.  Mr. Oglesby also had a great love for hunting, fishing, and playing his mandolin with his local music group, an activity affectionately referred to as “pickin’ and grinnin’”.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Robin Oglesby, a brother Leon Oglesby, and a sister Eva Nell Milton.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Oglesby, daughter Amy Oglesby (Brian Carter), son Norman Oglesby, 2 grandchildren Brent Jones (Stephanie) and Reece Jones, and a sister Hilda Rae Priest.

A graveside service will be held Monday, January 16, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Meadville, Mississippi.
