Bobby "B. J." Joe Smith

Bobby Joe Smith "B. J." passed away on November 5, 2024, at his home.  He was 89.

B. J. was born in Trenton, TN on July 4, 1935, the son of James Henry Smith and Ruby Jewel Hensley Smith.  He retired from Illinois Central Railroad after 33 years of service.  He was a kind, good hearted man of few words.  He greatly loved his grandchildren and family.  He coached little league baseball and football.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Carolyn Deason Smith, son Perry Smith (Jill), daughter Robin Rees (J. D.), brother Charlie Smith (Billie), sister Katherine Hollowell (Bob), grandchildren Rachel Hearst, Claire Pruden (Justin), Zane Cooper Smith, Charlie Rees and Philip Rees (Amy), great-grandchildren Caleb Segers (Amber), Hayes Grant, Walker Warnock, William Pruden, Blayke Pruden, Daniel Rees and Harper Rees. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Perry Smith, Zane Smith, Justin Pruden, Hayes Grant, Ricky Smith, Doug Huskey and Walker Warnock.
