Byron Jefferson Armstrong, Jr. was born on Tuesday, October 24, 1950 in Hazlehurst, MS and went to be with the Lord 70 years later on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at his home in Vicksburg, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Jefferson Armstrong, Sr. and Doris Gandy Armstrong; and two grandchildren.
Byron trusted in Jesus as his Savior and Lord in August of 1959 at Strong Hope Baptist Church in Wesson, MS. After graduating with his bachelor's and master's degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology, he worked at the U.S. Army's Engineer Research and Development Center as a research physicist and lived in Vicksburg for the remainder of his life. In Vicksburg, he met the love of his life, Ann Johnson, and married her in 1983. He was a member of Crossway Church.
Byron is survived by his wife, Ann Armstrong; his son, Jeff Armstrong and wife, Katie, of Wynnewood, OK; his daughter, Alyson Doles and husband, Garrett, of Vicksburg, MS; his grandsons, Zachary Doles and Caleb Armstrong; his sister, Nancy Dykes and husband, Jerry, of Wesson, MS; his niece, Carole Bass and husband, Justin, of Wesson, MS; his great-niece, Avery Bass; his brother-in-law, Tom Johnson and wife, Judy, of Starkville, MS; and his niece, Robyn Johnson of Philadelphia, MS.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Crossway Church in Vicksburg, MS. Interment will be at the Strong Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Wesson, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crossway Church in Vicksburg, MS or Samaritan's Purse.
