Charles Costillo

Charles W. Costillo, 91, of Vicksburg, MS passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Merit Health River Region.

Mr. Costillo was born on November 16, 1929 in Mounds, Louisiana to Domingo Costillo and Zelma May (Naff) Rodgers.  He worked for the State Highway Department for 30 years upon retiring at the age of 62.   He was a commercial fisherman when he wasn't working for the Mississippi Highway Department.  He was a member of the Apostolic Church of Vicksburg.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruthie Mae; his son Richard W. Costillo and a sister Hattie Mae (Naff) McCallister; a granddaughter Heavyn Mickaela Sanderford.

Survivors are his daughters Mary Sanderford (Danny) and Vivian Gladwell (Willie) of Vicksburg, MS; Hatttie Mooney (Joey) of Carriere, MS and son Isaac Costillo of Vicksburg, MS.  He has 7 grandchildren Frances Mae Castello of Vicksburg, MS, Sylvia Emfinger and husband Thomas of Bentonia, MS, Michael Paul Sanderford and wife Christie of Vicksburg, MS, LaDonna McCain and husband Jeremy of Hattiesburg, MS, Jason C. Ellis of New Orleans, LA, Willie P. Ellis of Crystal Springs, MS and James H. Ellis of Picayunne, MS; 13 great-grandchildren Christian T. Emfinger, Thomas G. Emfinger, Connor G. Emfinger, Houston B. Emfinger, Christopher P. Sanderford, James A. Sanderford, Caleb A. Sanderford, Brandon M. Sanderford, Bradley L. Sanderford, Zachary A. Sanderford, Maryhannah E. Sanderford, Dalton Simmons and Jaxson Ellis.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Apostolic Church of Vicksburg with Rev. John Parks, Jr. officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at 12:00  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Michael Sanderford, Thomas Emfinger, Tyler Emfinger, Grant Emfinger, Christopher Sanderford and John Michael Ogle.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of the Apostolic Church of Vicksburg.
