Charles Hill Obituary

Charles E. Hill of Vicksburg, MS, went home to his Lord and Savior on May 25, 2026, at the age of 79 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 7, 1946, in Natchez, MS. He was a devoted husband, loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents-—Thomas Calvin Hill, Sr., and Anna Laird Hill—as well as his brothers: Wilbur Temple, Adolphus Temple, Wayne Hill, and Thomas Hill, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Erma McClain Hill, three sons-Charles W. Hill (Deann), Scott Hill, and John Hill (Rhonda)-and five grandchildren: Bradley Hill, Chase Hill, Jacob Hill (Abbey), Macey Hill, and Jonah Hill.
 

Also, he is survived by his brothers Larry Hill and Fred Hill (Linda)-and two sisters: Ellen Neil and Mary Ann Gothart.

Charles graduated from Mathiston High School in 1965 and then joined the U.S. Army Reserves, where he served for 40 years, partaking in tours of Germany and Korea. He attended Wood Junior College, where he met the love of his life; and they were married on June 19, 1970. Charles attended Mississippi State University from
1969 to 1973, earning his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Economics. After graduating from MSU, he and his family moved to Aberdeen, MS, where he worked as an Assistant County Agent. He moved to Vicksburg, MS, in 1975 working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Economist for 30 years. He was a member of
Bovina Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon for 40 years. He was one of the first four deacons at Bovina Baptist Church. Also, he was a member of the church choir and served as Discipleship Training Director, a member of the Good Shepherd Sunday School Class, and a member of many church committees over the years.

Charles loved helping others, hunting, spending time with his family and friends, and traveling across the United States.

Pallbearers will be Lee Bruce, Bubba Bowen, James Henry, Ray Melancon, Binky Purvis, Jerry Stuart, Keith Stennett and David Wells.

Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at Bovina Baptist Church, 5293 US-80, Vicksburg, MS 39180. A graveside ceremony will be held at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery, 191 Highway 80, Vicksburg, MS 39180.
