Dalton Glatt, Jr. Obituary

Dalton Henry Glatt, Jr., 79, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in the early hours of the morning.  He resided at the Yalobusha Nursing Home in Water Valley, MS since October 2019.

Dalton is preceded in death by his wife, Verna Williams Glatt; his parents, Dalton H. Glatt, Sr. and Mary Frances Payne Glatt; and his brother, Robert Stanley Glatt.

Dalton is survived by his sister, Jane Glatt Brock, (Carl); two nephews, Jonathan R. Brock (Whitney) and Chris D. Brock (Amanda); a niece, Katelyn F. Brock; five great nephews, Connor Magee, Collin Brock, Cohen Brock, John Robert Brock and Cooper Brock.

Dalton was born and lived a majority of his life until recently in Vicksburg, MS.  He was a 1960 graduate of H. V. Cooper High, and a 1967 graduate of Mississippi State University.  In 1968 he began his teaching career at H. V. Cooper in mechanical drawing and industrial shop.  Dalton moved on to teach at the Bovina Vocational School and the Vicksburg Branch of Hinds Community College.  His career changed to a draftsman of houses with William Few, then draftsman with the U. S. Corps of Engineers Vicksburg Division for 20+ years.  He later transferred to the Grenada and Enid Lakes until his retirement in January 2006.

When Dalton was able, he was always doing something for someone, sharing stories of his life experiences, or knowledge of how to’s on everything he knew how to build.  He loved his church and collecting and making jelly for the Dinner on the Grounds at St. Alban’s Episcopal.  Dalton spent many an hour on working to restore some of the wood throughout the church.  They broke the mold when they made Dalton.  There will not be another one like him.

Dalton’s bright spot in his life these last several years was encouraging his niece, Katelyn, and her aspirations to be a doctor as well as hearing about his great nephews.

The family appreciates the friendship and wonderful care of Dr. George Abraham, Jr.  We were very blessed to have he and the staff at the Yalobusha Nursing Home taking such good care of our loved one.

The family and any friends are welcome to attend a graveside service on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bovina.  We ask that all who attend wear your masks and distance.
