Darrell John Smith, of Blanton, MS, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age of 92.
He was born to John and Helen Smith of Winchester, Illinois on August 31, 1932.
On January 21, 1957, he married Alona Hinds Smith. They moved to the Mississippi Delta in 1959 where they raised three children and farmed for 60 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife Alona.
He loved farming and being with his family. He passed on his love of farming to his son Johnnie.
Funeral services will be held at Rolling Fork First Baptist Church on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with visitation starting at 10:00 and the service at 11:00. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughters, Lola (Winnie) Avery (Russell) of Pearl, Cindy Mae Cole (Joe) of Redwood and his son John Curtis Smith (Angie) of Blanton. Five grandchildren: Melissa Avery Sines (Thomas) of Denton, TX, Christy Avery Morehead (Brian) of Pearl, Natasha Smith Carwyle (Adam) of New Albany, Dixie Vance Gaul of Vicksburg and John Robert Smith (Kaely) of Benton. He leaves behind 10great-grandchildren a sister Grace and a brother Sam and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John Robert Smith, Brain Morehead, William Frazier, Thomas Sines, Kasey Gilliland and Mike Zachery. Honorary pallbearers will be William Moore, Gary Burns, Ray Watson, David Campbell and his great grandsons Tyler Sines, Joey Sines, John Thomas Smith and Conor Carwyle.
