Mike passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi, after a brief illness of COVID-19. He was born August 23, 1963, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to JR and Kathleen Roberts Gibbs.

Most of you know that Mike was a man of very few words. He was a great man who would do anything for anybody. He was a man of many talents and could make anything he wanted to make. He worked for Mr. Eckels Evans when he was a teenager and learned many things from him. He also learned a lot from Mr. Johnny Nicholas. Mike worked for Mr. Jerry Melton and Complex Chemical as Vice President of Operations for many years. Mike was an avid hunter. He really enjoyed it when the grandkids would go with him. They would do more eating snacks (Luke) than anything. But, they did kill some deer and some hogs. He was a member of Winn-Jackson Hunting Club. Everyone there made us feel like family. Man, did they all love them some Mikie! Mike loved to fish and take the kids tubing. HE JUST LOVED BEING WITH HIS FAMILY!

Mike leaves behind his loving family; his beloved wife of over 30 years, Teresa Gibbs, and four amazing children and their spouses who made him very happy for their accomplishments. He loved his sons-in-law and daughter-in-law as if they were his own children. Mike and Telisa had two amazing daughters together. Ashley Fowler and her husband, Nathan, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, have two awesome boys, Huntley and Dawson. Amber Lopez and her husband, Wally, of Tallulah, Louisiana, have three awesome boys, Bronson, Luke Michael, and Jackson. Telisa was always a close friend and family to Mike and Teresa. Mike thought of Teresa’s sons as if they were his own children. Greg Johnston and his wife, Jamie Lea, of Tallulah, Louisiana, have three awesome children, Blane, Hartlea Blake, and Callan. James William Johnston of Texas has two awesome children, JR and Evie. Mike was very close to Teresa’s sons. He and Greg were extremely close to each other; so close that they knew what each other were thinking. That got a little scary at times. Kids, I want you all to know that your Daddy loved each and every one of y’all in his own special way. Please never forget that. Mike also leaves behind two sisters and a brother; Cathy Hayes and her husband, Neil, of Tennessee; Susan Brown and her husband, Rickey, of Tallulah, Louisiana; and Robert Gibbs of Meridian, Mississippi; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Mike has so many friends. I can’t list them all: Ray Smith, Joe LaCour, Whalen Plauche, Ricky Plauche, Mr. JR Lambert, James Gunter, all of the men and ladies at Complex Chemical. Please know that he cared about everyone of y’all out there.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, JR. and Kathleen Gibbs; great niece, Sweet Georiga Cate Cobb; dear friend, Mr. Eckels Evans; both grandparents, John R. and Vergie Gibbs and Charles Lloyd and Ruby Lee Roberts; and long time friend, Lynnis E. Albin.

Pallbearers will be Ray Smith, Cliff Smith, Marlin Glass, Sam Whitaker, Jeremy Brown, Jared Harrell, Tim Sargent, David Duckworth, Scott Cobb, and Kyle Eaton. Honorary Senior Pallbearers will be Jerry Melton, James Gunter, Joe LaCour, Lance Dunn, Whalen Plauche, David Daniels, Scott Wallace, Daniel Minchew, Ricky Plauche, Bide Brown, Nick Nicholas. and Clay Ratcliff. Honorary Junior Pallbearers will be Blane Johnston, Bronson Lopez, Luke Michael Lopez, Huntley Fowler, Jackson Lopez, Dawson Fowler, and Callan Johnston.
