Doris Bradley Obituary

Doris LaVerne Bradley “Aunt Verne” departed this life peacefully and went to her Heavenly home on Monday, September 20, 2021. She lived and loved for 95 years. Her memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 23, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Sondheimer, Louisiana, with Rev. Billy Castilaw officiating. Graveside will be at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah, Louisiana. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

LaVerne Bradley was born February 25, 1926, in Crowville, Louisiana, to Thomas Knee and Pnina Lenora Parker Bradley, but spent most of the first 65 years of her life in Sondheimer. She became associated with the Sondheimer Post Office three months after her graduation from Lake Providence High School and spent 23 years as sub-clerk before being appointed Postmaster. She served as postmaster of Sondheimer Post Office for over 35 yeas, faithfully tending the community that she loved.

She was a devoted member of Sondheimer First Baptist Church and served as church clerk for many years. She taught children’s Sunday School and became a Christian mentor to the children that attended. This beloved church was her second family.

For many years, she took care of her mother, making sure they never missed a ballgame, dance recital, graduation, or any other event. She was a devoted daughter for as long as her mom needed her. Her strong Christian faith was an example for all who knew her.

After her retirement from the Post Office, LaVerne moved to Tallulah, Louisiana. Here she enjoyed spending time with family, making friends and playing cards with her card club.

Although LaVerne did not have her own children, she had an entire family that claimed her as their mom, grandmother, or aunt. With a family of 25 nieces and nephews, 67 great nieces and nephews, over 139 great, great nieces and nephews and at least 66 great, great greats filling the family tree, Aunt Verne always knew she was loved.

Miss Bradley joins her other family members who preceded her to Heaven’s gates: Her parents, T.K. and Nora Bradley; her sisters, Irene Barrilleaux and husband Milton, Hazel Roberson and husband Garland, Louise Nacol and husband Adam, Virginia Myers and husband Carl; her brothers, Luther Bradley and wife Floy Mae, Leo Bradley and wife Florene, and Raymond Bradley and wife Christine.

Pallbearers for the service will be Gary Vogel, Jamie Vogel, Curt Collins, Dave Collins, Robbie Kivett, and Rick Kivett. Honorary pallbearers will be her other great nephews and great, great nephews.
