Dorothy Fenwick Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” Fenwick entered the Church Triumph surrounded by her family on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on May 26, 1936, in Beeville, Texas to Dorothy Mae (Eeds) and John Halmer Chew. She was raised by her mother and family after her father passed away when she was very young.

She graduated from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville and attended the University of Texas where she met her husband, Bill. They were married in 1957 and moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1959.

She worked at Raworth & Halford, CPA firm, for many years. Later working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Waterways Experiment Station and U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center. She loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, all the National Parks and traveling abroad several times. She also loved gardening, sewing and cooking.

Dot was a friend to many and a cherished member of the community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. She served as President/Moderator of the Women of the Church, taught Sunday school, cooking and serving Meals on Wheels, a previous Elder and Deacon, and serving on the Women’s Retreat committee. Her friends in the Mary-Martha Sunday school class were a treasure to her. She was a sustaining member of the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary and member of the Antique Sampler Club. She had a servant’s heart and was always positive and encouraging.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bill Fenwick, parents, sister Virginia Durden and nephew Roger Durden.

She is survived by her children John Bradford Fenwick of Vicksburg, MS, Patricia Aleene (Peter) Skrobarczyk of Houston, Texas and Tracy Ann (Jeff) Portwood of Madison, MS. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Shelby Ann (Kyle) Krebs of Dallas, Texas, Andrew Bradford (Jill) Skrobarczyk of Houston, Texas, John William (Laurel) Portwood of Aubrey, Texas and Lauren Skrobarczyk (Joseph) Franklin of Houston, Texas; one great-grandson John William Franklin, one great-granddaughter due in June and nephew John Kyle (Charla) Durden of Pensacola, Florida.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, visitation from 9:00-11:00 am and memorial service to follow at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church. A private family burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery, Vicksburg. Glenwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
