Elsie Little Obituary

Elsie Lee “Nettie” Vinson Little, 93 years old, of Vicksburg, Mississippi  passed away peacefully
in her sleep on May 23, 2025.  She was surrounded by her loved ones.
Nettie was born in Columbus, Georgia on January 29, 1932.  She was the daughter of the late
Edward Houston Vinson and Mattie Lee Ammons Vinson.  Both of her parents, born and reared in
Ozark, Alabama, moved to Columbus to work in the textile mills. Her father unfortunately died of
an ear infection in 1935 leaving her mother to care for five children during the depths of the “Great
Depression.”  She met and married Keith G. Little in 1949 when he was stationed at Fort Benning,
Georgia.  After his enlistment ended with the U. S. Army, they moved to Bovina, Mississippi to join
the family farming enterprise.  After nearly 65 years of marriage, Keith preceded her in death in
January, 2014.  Nettie is survived by two sons, Randall K. Little (Karen) of Brewton, Alabama and
Walter V. Little of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one older brother, Curtis Vinson of Buda, Texas; and
one grandson, Ethan K. Little of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and, numerous nephews, nieces, and
cousins. She is also preceded in death by sisters Vernell Avirett and Erma Snow and brother, Donald
 Vinson.
Nettie worked for more than two decades in physician offices and retired from the medical records
department at the Street Clinic. She was actively involved for many years with the Bovina Methodist
Church, sewing, arts and crafts, and as a participant in flea markets.  She was an outstanding cook
and relished preparing large meals for family reunions and holiday gatherings held annually for
many years in her home.  After she retired, she and Keith with good friends Jimmy and Willie Jean
Knight enjoyed going on extended trips and adventures across the continental United States, Alaska,
Hawaii, and Canada.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.  She had a
heart of compassion, gentleness, unselfishness, and caring and she gave kindness and support to all.
Her life reflected treating everyone with respect and more often wearing a smile to consider what
is true and real, and always trying to understand the way other people feel. Her guiding precept was
to be less quick to anger, show appreciation more, and love the people in our lives like we have
never loved before.  She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family extends gratitude to “Visiting Angels” Brenda Franklin whose care giving assistance
extended Nettie’s time at home and to the administrative staff and care-givers at the Claiborne
County Senior Care Center for their professionalism, dedication, and proactive support they
provided to Nettie.  She praised their assistance and devotion to her personal care.
A memorial celebration of Nettie’s life will be held at the Bovina Methodist Church, 70 Bovina
Drive, Vicksburg, Mississippi 39180 on June 21, 2025.  The visitation at the Church will begin at
10:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that
memorials be made to the Bovina Methodist Church.
