Obituary

Gale Marie Goldman Morgan died July 26, 2023, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, at the age of 83. Born in Moline, Illinois, to Wallace Bergendahl and Gwendolyn Fries Goldman, she was adopted at an early age by her beloved father Merle Goldman.

Gale graduated from Hillsborough High School in Tampa, FL, and went on to earn advanced degrees from the University of Tampa, Albany Junior College, Georgia Southwestern University, and the University of Georgia. An acclaimed and prolific artist, her commissioned works hang in museums and private homes across the country. She worked mostly in oil, watercolor, pastels, and pen and ink, but produced works in nearly all mediums. As an educator, she taught at Lee County, GA, middle and high school; Albany Junior College, Albany, GA; and Georgia Southwestern University, Americus, GA. She also conducted workshops and gave private lessons across Georgia and Alabama.

Gale was married to the Rev. Dr. H. Harrison Morgan, Jr., for 50 years. They served several Presbyterian churches in Southwest Georgia, and through her husband’s work as Executive Presbyter and Stated Clerk of the Synod, their ministry reached thousands across the Southeast. In retirement, they worked to further the ministry of Thornwell Home and School for Children.

Gale is preceded in death by her husband H. Harrison Morgan. Survivors include their daughters, Lisa Lee Morgan and Elizabeth Marie Morgan; their son Homer Harrison Morgan, III, his wife Valerie Womack Morgan, and their children, her beloved grandchildren, Lillian Claire Morgan and William Harrison Morgan; and her brother Michael M. Goldman, his wife Charlotte, and their children Michael and Debbie. She also leaves behind a half-sister and brother, Linda Bergendahl-Pauling and Gary Bergendahl.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
