Gary Jones

Gary Preston Jones, age 82, passed away at his home on February 24, 2025. He was born in Jonesboro, LA on September 23, 1942, to Emmett and Ruth Jones. Cheerful and exuberant, Gary loved conversing and telling stories. He could strike up instant friendship anywhere he went and loved talking to strangers and making connections with people. 

Gary was born in Jonesboro, LA, but he grew up living in 10 different states (Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Kansas, Ohio, Texas, Delaware, Virginia, and New Jersey) and in Rouen, France. Wherever the family moved, Gary would disappear and have made new friends within hours of arrival. 

Gary attended Northeast Louisiana University and played college football. After graduation, he earned a master's degree in business and began a career with Louisiana Power and Light where he worked until he retired in 1992. Previously, Gary farmed part time, but after retiring, this became full time work in Franklin, Richland, and Madison parishes. In addition, he worked in the cotton gin business and spent many weeks traveling throughout the South calling on customers and connecting with people, which was what he loved most. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Emmett and Ruth Jones, his sister, Karen Rima, and his brother-in-law, Dr. James Bruner. He is survived by his son and his wife: Brant and Amy Jones and their children Evie Chase and Elise; his daughter: Sara Jones and her children Ella Ruth and Oliver Klug; his sister: Judy Bruner and her daughter Anne-Marie Tracey (Eamonn and their son Iorwerth); his brother-in law Bob Rima and his children Lindsey (Lionel) and Meredith Garee (James). 

A visitation will be held at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah on Thursday, February 27 from 4-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St Jude or the charity of one's choice.
