George "Don" Whittenberg died Sunday, June 21, 2020, at his residence. He was 83.
A native of East St. Louis, Ill., he lived most of his life in Vicksburg, where he was formerly employed at Beneficial Finance and later employed at the Mutual Credit Union where he retired as Vice President of Loan operations, retiring in 2007.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church,
He was preceded in death by his parents, George U. and Josephine Vorada Whittenberg.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Roberta "Bo" Whittenberg; his daughter, Susan Stanton; his son-in-law, Shaun Stanton; his grandchildren, Strickland Stanton and Sadie Stanton; his sister-in-law, Kay Sakulin; his brother-in-law, Charles Cobb; his niece, Diane Bailey and special friends Mark Monroe, Ann and Bill Henley, Miles Henley, John Black, Maxie Henry, Trip Hadad, Paul Carrico, Cecil and Carolyn Bryant and Joey Irwin.
Special thanks are given to St. Joseph Hospice for their caring and compassionate care extended to the Whittenbergs.
A memorial service honoring Don's life will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service.
