Glenn Elliott Prewitt, Jr. was born on January 11, 1946, in Minden, Louisiana. He left this earth to be with his Lord on May 12, 2026.
Glenn is survived by his wife Sharon Fulford Prewitt, his three children Stephanie Boler (Dub), Sherry Tarnabine (Joe), Steven Prewitt, and a stepson Michael Parker. His 6 grandchildren are Chelse Chenier, Phillip Alatorre, Sarah Soverns (Jared), Michael Lay, Steven Prewitt (Breanna) and Jacob Prewitt. He also has one step granddaughter Samantha Parker. He has 8 great-grandchildren and 4 siblings, Tricia Redditt, Gail Walker, Becky Bowers and Gary Russell, and many nieces and nephews.
Glenn is preceded in death by his father Glenn Prewitt, Sr., his mother Patsy Parker Russell, and stepfather T. W. Russell. Also, his first wife Mildred Dianne Walley Prewitt, two stepbrothers Ted Russell and Dewayne Russell.
Glenn lived most of his life here in Vicksburg, MS, so he is considered a Vicksburg native. He married Dianne Wally in 1966, and served in the Navy for two years very soon thereafter. He worked for the Railroad from 1970-1985. He moved his family to Dallas, Texas for a brief 3 years, then moved back to Vicksburg. He worked for the Corp. of Engineers on the dredge Jadwin from 1988-2009, when he retired.
Glenn loved his family, and worked very hard to provide for them, even if it meant getting very little sleep while working for the railroad and the dredge. He also loved helping people in need. Anytime he saw someone on the road with car trouble or a flat tire, he would stop to help them. He also helped many people who needed help moving, especially single mothers or widows, never charging anything for his services. He also helped to take care of his mother at the end of her life, when she experienced an extended illness. He loved to fish when he had time.
Glenn was a follower of Jesus Christ, and was a member of Triumph Church, Vicksburg. He was one of the first deacons, carrying out the role of helping in practical matters. He did that in many ways, doing whatever the pastor needed, and helping various members in a variety of tasks. He had a gift of friendliness, being a greeter for many years at the church, making people feel welcomed and noticed.
Glenn's life was characterized by being hard working, good hearted, friendly, and a man of integrity. He will be missed by family and friends very much.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p. m. on May 27, 2026, at Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
