Henry Vick Phelps, III, of Nitta Yuma, Mississippi, passed away at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, on his 65th birthday, October 2, 2021. He was the manager of Nitta Yuma Plantation founded by his ancestors in the early 1800s.
Henry held a life-long devotion to the historic preservation of the old town structures in Nitta Yuma. He was a member of the Rolling Fork Masonic Lodge, and he was well known throughout the community for his willingness to always lend a helping hand to those in need.
Henry is survived by his son, Henry Vick Phelps, IV, his three sisters, Irene Cole Phelps, Helen Carolyn Phelps May (Woody), and Vicki Phelps Domin, his nephew Herman Cooley May, and his niece Anne Vick Wilson. Along with his parents, Henry Vick Phelps II and Dorothy Cole Phelps, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia Granberry Phelps.
The funeral will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Anguilla, MS. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM, and the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Following the service, his final resting place will be in the Phelps Family Mausoleum at Nitta Yuma.
The pallbearers are Cooley May, Malcolm Stamps, Olivio Caselli, Greg Bruton, John Granberry, Sam Granberry, Melvin Young, and Mike Domin.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the building fund of the United Methodist Church of Anguilla or St. Jude’s Hospital.
