Funeral services celebrating the life of Jackie Franklin McClain, 90, of Newellton, LA, will be Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., at the First Baptist Church in Newellton, LA, with Rev. Dennis Campbell and Rev. Brandon Jones officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Jackie passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake, in Baton Rouge, LA, after a brief illness. He was born on December 29, 1933, in Newellton to the union of Lowell Franklin McClain and Myrtle Miller McClain. Jackie was the epitome of a southern gentleman and a true friend to all. He loved Newellton and was known as the local “historian”. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather who adored his family, always making them his first priority. He was a lifelong resident of Newellton and a graduate of Newellton High School. He retired from Chevron Corporation in 1996 after a 30 year career. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church Newellton where he served as a deacon for over 40 years. He was a true patriot who proudly served his country during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joe Allen McClain and three sisters, Dorothy McClain Carter, Jewel Dean McClain Lee, and Helen McClain Qualls.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 63 years, Bobbie Arnold McClain, and three children, Steven McClain and wife Sandy, Pat McClain and wife Molly, and Kelly McClain Williams and husband Chris and seven grandchildren, Ashton McClain Day, Madeline McClain, Jackson McClain, Casey Williams and wife Taylor, Katelyn Williams, Caroline Williams Smith and husband Christian, and Christian Williams.
