Janice Phelps, 81, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2025. She was born December 10, 1943, to Fairly and Marie Hickman. She grew up in Bogue Chitto, MS and graduated from Bogue Chitto High School where she was voted Most Beautiful her senior year.
Jan lived in Vicksburg 17 years before moving to Ridgeland, MS to be close to her children and grandchildren. Jan was the Property Manager for Cherokee Properties in Jackson, MS for 30+ years and built so many wonderful friendships across the capital city. Her business clients loved her dearly and always kept in touch with her even after she retired. To know her is to love her. Jan always had a sweet smile and spirit and was always known as a kind and caring woman. Her endless love toward others was sincere, and she found no excuse to shun a request from those in need. Jan was a member of Trace Ridge Baptist Church in Ridgeland and without a doubt always loved the Lord. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Fairly and Marie Hickman; husband, Bobby Phelps; brothers, Mitchell Hickman, Marvin Hickman; sisters, Phylis Nail, Elsie Hart, Frances Moak.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Kevin Miller (Audrey Miller); daughters, Paula Gilmer, Staci Bartley (Bruce Bartley).
She is also survived by brother, Jesse Hickman (Betty); 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Words from grandchildren: Mamaw was our taxi! She was always there to take us anywhere we needed to go.
She was the best Mamaw! If we were hungry, she was always willing to prepare meals and snacks not just for us but our friends too! We will always remember her grilled cheese sandwiches, egg sandwiches, and her famous sweet tea and chicken strips!
