Jennie Palmer Obituary

Jennie Lynne Bauder Palmer, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch, passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home of 61 years, surrounded by her loving children.

Jennie was born on March 25, 1942, in Merced, California. Orphaned at an early age, she was lovingly raised by her Aunt Jennie Arnold Blake in the foothills of Nebraska. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1959.

Jennie began her career as a bookkeeper at Magnolia Mobile Homes in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where she met the love of her life, Marion Austin Palmer of Morton, Mississippi. Marion and Jennie were married in 1960. Their first child, Doug, was born in 1961 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The family later moved back to Mississippi in 1963 and settled in Vicksburg. They resided on Washington Street for a brief time before purchasing a home and 28 acres on Warriors Trail in Bovina, Mississippi, in 1964.

In her early years, Jennie was a dedicated homemaker and full-time mother to her five children: Doug, Mary, Jeffrey, David, and Tommy. She was known as a fabulous homemaker and cook, consistently providing three hot meals a day for her family. Jennie enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, and preparing fresh, whole foods for her family. She was also an active and dedicated member of the Nazarene Church in Vicksburg, where she touched the lives of countless children as the Children’s Bible Quizzing Director.

As her children entered their teenage years, Jennie took a more active role in the family business, managing the family’s parts supply store on US Highway 61 South in Vicksburg and handling all of the bookkeeping. After the family business was sold, Jennie pursued further education at Hinds Community College in Vicksburg, graduating with a degree in accounting and achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA. Upon graduation, she accepted a full-time position as Benefits Manager for Tyson Foods in Flowers, Mississippi.

Jennie was an avid traveler, exploring all 50 U.S. states with her husband, Marion. Her adventures also took her to countries on six continents, including visits to the Holy Land of Israel, a safari in Africa, and an expedition in the Galapagos, among many other destinations.

In her retirement years, Jennie embraced her role as the matriarch of her large family. She genuinely enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and an adopted mother to many.

Jennie was preceded in death by her father Laurence Malcom Bauder, mother Dorothy Mae Arnold Bauder, her adopted mother Jennie Arnold Blake, her sisters Shirley and Laureen, and her beloved husband, Marion Austin Palmer.

She is survived by her brother, Laurence “Butch” Bauder; children: Doug Palmer, Mary Goodin, Jeff Palmer, David Palmer, and Tommy Palmer; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
