On Sunday June 13, 2021, Jewel Carraway of Utica, Mississippi, passed away at the age of 98.
Jewel was born on April 5, 1923 in Utica, Mississippi. She was married to Richard White CarrawayJr. for 61 years. She attended Hinds Junior College and received her teaching certificate from the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught at Jack school in Dentville, Mississippi for several years and was the bookkeeper for their auto parts businesses in Utica, Raymond, and Jackson until she retired. She was very instrumental in establishing the Reedtown Water Association for the community she lived in. She was a devoted lifelong member of the Utica Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard White Carraway, Jr., her son Timothy William, her parents W.B. and Esther Neill, her sister Betty (Devere) Davis, and brothers Robert Clay and Wiley Bryan Neill, Jr.
She is survived by her children Dickey (Jan) and Dennis (Betty Sue) Carraway, and her daughter Janice (Ron) Suggs. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bryan and Everette Carraway, Jay Kay (Jonathan) Mangum, Richard White (Erin) Carraway III, Hayley Mae (Craig) Moss, Hollye Florio, Renae (Wesley) Johnson, and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Peggy King and Sandra (Hilton) Goff and many nieces and nephews
A graveside service will be held on June 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the cemetery in Utica, Mississippi.
