Joe Oliver Watson passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026. He was 84 years old. He was born on March 31, 1942, to James Watson and Julia Estelle Huggins Watson. He was a big-time jokester. He loved anything that was outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and riding around in the woods. He always knew what season it was when it was coming.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Watson; parents, James Watson and Julia Estelle Huggins Watson; brothers, James Watson, Lee Watson, Billy Watson, William Watson; sister, Hilda Reece and stepchild, Hijhie Wilson.
He is survived by his sons, Wesley Watson and Rodney Watson; daughters, Gwen Slaughter and Anna Wilson; stepchildren, Lynn Hughes, James "Junior" Roy Wilson, Jr., Sharon Mosley (Tim), David Wilson (Cindy), Gene Morris and Mary Creekmore (Richie); brother, Roy Watson (Phyllis); sisters, Mary Fasano (Bob) and Linda Towe; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Pickle, Tim Hodnett, Kevin Watson, Ray Watson, Craig Breland, Lonnie Boykin, Jeffery Mitchell and Joe Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Boykin, Johnny Miller, Phillip Byrd and William Moore.
A funeral service will be held on May 26, 2026, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, Mississippi at 11 am with Rev. Roger Cresswell officiating the service. Visitation will be at 9 am. Burial will follow after the service at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork, Mississippi.
