John James Mathis passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024. He was 74 years old. He was born in Woodville, MS on October 10, 1949. He was a Manager of Environmental Safety and Health which led him to traveling all over the world. He enjoyed hunting, tinkering, shopping on Amazon, Ole Miss (football) and his baseball card collection. He was a big animal lover.
John had an extraordinary ability to connect with people on a deeper level. He wasn't just interested in the work you did; he was interested in who you were as a person. His genuine approach and respect for people opened doors and removed obstacles that others couldn't even see. This approach didn't just benefit those who worked closely with him; it transformed the entire industry. John was a pioneer, a visionary who shifted paradigms and redefined what it meant to lead. He taught people that people are not just workers; they are whole beings with minds, bodies, and souls that deserve to be respected and valued.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Prentiss and Lillie King Mathis; sister, Norma Jean Murray; brothers, Wayne Mathis and Roy Mathis.
He is survived by his wife, Cecily Greer Mathis; sons, James Lacy Mathis (Tammy) and Johnny Mathis (Stacy); daughters, Pamela Mathis and Sharon Sparks (Aaron); brother, Tommy Ray Mathis; grandchildren, John Cameron Tubbs, Lacey Tubbs, Clayton Mathis, Alyssa Sparks, Chloe Kujawa, Wyatt Laird and Addison Mathis; one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Tubbs.
