Johnnie Baker, Sr. Obituary

Johnnie Walter Baker, Sr, 97 departed his earthly life on November 16, 2024. Johnnie was born, the eighth child, to William and Bell Baker on August 26, 1927. He lived his entire life in the Pattison/ Port Gibson area of Mississippi. He served in the Korean War and was a member of the Mississippi National Guard and The Army Reserve for 43 years. He loved his country and took pride in his service and the many friendships he made, traveling each year all over the United States to attend the 45th Tank battalion reunion.

Mr. Baker retired from the U.S. Postal service after 38 years. He was known for his hard work, working two jobs to provide for his family, and as a teen, attended school only periodically when farming season was dormant. He believed, and often repeated, " Hardwork won't kill you, but will make you want to die" He took great pride in the cows, horses and deer hounds he raised and loved.

A loving family man he would willingly help anyone in need. Johnnie was tough, believed in tough love, but was a giver and doer for others, generous with his time and love for his family, especially his wife of 72 years Carline Allen Baker who preceded him in death last April.

He is survived by his son, Johnnie W. Baker, Jr and wife Mary, Granddaughter Jamie Baker Ford, husband Michael and great- granddaughters Lilly and Lucy Ford. Step grandson Preston Eldridge, his sons Thomas and John and many nieces and nephews who he loved visiting with.

The family wishes to thank the Staff at Clinton Health Care, Clinton, Ms. for their attentive care in the last year of his life. Special love and thanks to Hazel Hawthorn whose care and love made her a member of our family.

Services will be at Wintergreen cemetery, Port Gibson, Ms. on November 19,2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road Suite 300, Jacksonville FL. 32256
