Joseph Walter McClendon, Sr. passed away on April 9, 2022, at Sharkey Issaquena Community Hospital in Rolling Fork, MS. He was 85.
Joe was born in Greenville, MS on September 9, 1936, the son of the late Douglas Jefferson McClendon and Ruby Lee Beacham McClendon. He worked on the Mississippi River for 67 years, serving as Pilot for 61 of those years. He was also employed with Wilkerson Barge Line for 19 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Airforce. He attended Rolling Fork First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Douglas J. McClendon and David McClendon, sister Mary Pigg and grandsons Brett Jefferson McClendon and Philip Andrew McClendon.
He is survived by his wife Freddie McClendon of Rolling Fork, MS, sons Joseph Walter McClendon, Jr. (Ann) of Hernando, MS, Robert Jefferson McClendon (Beth) of Rolling Fork, MS and Dewey J. "Peanut" McClendon of Rolling Fork, MS, brothers Frank McClendon and Hugh McClendon, sisters Myrtis Doyle, Deloris Long and Sharon Wheatley and grandchildren Cory Tyler McClendon of Hernando, MS, Robert Jefferson McClendon, Jr. (Lara) of Senath, MO, Brittany McClendon Hill (Noah) of Cleveland, MS, Shaw Ingram (Caroline) of Hattiesburg, MS and Ross Ingram (Ashley) of Alexander, AR.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Rolling Fork First Baptist Church. Bro. Britt Williamson will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery. Glenwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Joe Walter McClendon, Jr., Cory Tyler McClendon, Robert Jefferson McClendon, Jr., Mike McClendon, Chuck Ramsey, Kelly Perry, Phillip Byrd and Melvin Young.
Memorials may be made to the Rolling Fork First Baptist Church.
