Joseph G. Strickland (Joe) went to his heavenly home on March 5, 2026.
He was born to Glenn Strickland and Lucille Furio Strickland on March 18, 1947 in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
He graduated from St. Francis Aloysius Catholic School and Hinds Community College. In 1968, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Kenneth D. Bailey. After his service he joined his father's survey business and continued after his father's retirement.
In 2002, he established Strickland Surveying and Mapping. He was active in the National Society of Professional Surveyors and was instrumental in the passage of the survey licensure laws in Mississippi. Joe was a past president of MAPS and an NSPS fellow. He was an active surveyor until his death. He loved hunting and fishing. He was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, his sister Carol Schaljo, and granddaughter Louisa Selah Strickland.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Tommye Strickland, daughter, Laura (Brad) Rosser and son, Christopher (Tess) Strickland, sisters Rose Strickland (Dennis Ghiglieri) and Helen (Billy) Kinnebrew, his grandchildren Katherine Morris, Brayden Rosser, Rivers Strickland and Price Strickland.
Visitation will be at 10:00 Friday, March 27, with Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 at Glenwood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Reseach Hospital, Samaritan’s Purse or charity of choice.
