Joseph Earl Thorpe, 80, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026. He was born in Yazoo City, MS on July 27, 1945. Sarge worked all the time. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, dancing, shooting pool and working on and fixing stuff. Sarge whistled all the time. He loved talking and never met a stranger. Sarge joined the Army in 1963 and served until 1972, Retiring as a Supply Sergeant. He also joined the National Guard in 1976, and retired. Sarge was a proud Vietnam Vet.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Laura Thorpe; daughter, Kathrine Buchanan Friley; sister, Levonne Simmons and Wilma Whatley.
Sarge is survived by his son, Tim Thorpe (Ami); daughters, Allison Thorpe Graves (David) and Darlene Jelpi (George); brothers, James Fields (Joyce) and Larry Winningham; grandchildren, Chris Thorpe, Nikki Beckham (David), Bradley Thorpe, Tim Thorpe and Kayleigh Thorpe; greatgrandchildren, Dillon Williams and Lyla Thorpe; partner of 13 years, Madeline Caliguiro and special friend, Bobby Amborn.
