Joy Goodwin Obituary

Joy Fay Goodwin, age 77, completed her journey from earth to heaven on Saturday, October 16, 2021. The celebration of her life service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the United Pentecostal Church in Newellton, Louisiana, with her son, David Joel Goodwin, officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday prior to her celebration of life service. Interment will be immediately following the service at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Chris Lindsey, Jimmy Lindsey, Kenneth Woodruff, Cody Lindsey, Chris Baker, and Cole Higginbotham.

Mrs. Goodwin was a long-time resident of Newellton, Louisiana, and member of the United Pentecostal Church in Newellton. She was a dedicated homemaker.

Mrs. Goodwin was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David Lamar Goodwin; granddaughter, Faith Goodwin; parents, Louie A. and Tressie A. Lindsey; brothers, Jimmy L. Lindsey and Donald R Lindsey; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harvey J. and Maggie Goodwin.

She is survived by three children, David Joel Goodwin of Oak Grove, Louisiana, Pamela Joy Goodwin of Newellton, Louisiana, and Donna G. Burns and husband Scott of Tallulah, Louisiana; grandchildren, Chasity Estis, Madelyn Grace “Gracie” Goodwin, Summer Berry, Dakota Donley, and Dylan Stewart; great grandchildren, David Liam, Willow, Sophia, Braxton David, Rhenn, and Maddox; brother, Coy Lindsey and wife Billy Jean of Mangham, Louisiana; sisters, Kay Lindsey of Urania, Louisiana, Renee Lindsey King and husband Robert of Urania, Louisiana, and Sue Lindesy of Winnsboro, Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was affectionately called “Mom” by Julie Chase and husband Melvin and was “Mawmaw” to her sons, Preston and Conlan.

On November 13, 1943, Joy Fay Lindsey was born in Sikes, Louisiana, to the union of Louie A. Lindsey and Tressie A. Crain Lindsey. She grew up with three brothers and three sisters. Being next to the oldest, she had plenty experience taking care of her younger brothers and sisters and dreamed of one day being married and having children of her own. Her dream came true.

On May 27, 1962, she married the love of her life and sweetheart, David Lamar Goodwin. With her arms wide open, her family circle grew to include her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harvey and Maggie Goodwin. She became sister to Maybelle, Louis, R.J. “Red”, Robert, Charles “June Bug”, Harvey “Poochie”, and Richard, and she became Aunt Fay to all the “Goodwin” nieces and nephews.

She was known for her devoted love for her family, her love for God and Church, and her old-fashioned “come on in and make yourself at home” hospitality. Wherever she went, she made it feel like home with her unconditional love and warm comfort. In her circle of love, there was always room for one more. She was wife and sweetheart to David Lamar; mama to Donna, Pam and David Joel; mawmaw to a few, Sis. Fay or Mrs. Joy to some, but a friend to all. She loved.
