Katie Burkhalter Sims

Katie Burkhalter Sims passed into the glory of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 10:24 p.m. at her home in Grace, MS, surrounded by her loved ones.

Katie was born August 5, 1937, in Anguilla, MS to Hansel E. and Sally Yawn Burkhalter.  She moved to Glen Allan, MS at an early age and graduated from Glen Allan High School.  She married Robert B. Sims in 1955 and moved to Grace, MS.  Together they operated, and later owned, Bourne's Cash Store.  The post office was located inside the store and Robert was the postmaster until his death in 1991.  The post office was relocated to a new facility and Katie continued to own and operate the store until it burned in 1996.  She went to work for the U. S. Postal Service and continued to work there until her retirement. She was a lady of strong faith and attended Grace United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert, sisters; Doris Nicholas of Sumrall, MS, Nira Jennings of Inidanola, MS and Mary Ann Brooks of Vicksburg, MS and brother, Jackie Burkhalter of Glen Allan, MS.

Katie is survived by her sisters, Patsy Harris of Rolling Fork, MS, Billie Marshall of Vicksburg, MS and Bobbie Crawford (Wix) of Holly Bluff, MS and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her very much.  

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020 in County Line Cemetery, Glen Allan, MS.
