Larry Dean Barrett

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Dean Barrett who went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 23, 2025 at his home in Pattison, Mississippi. He passed away unexpectedly at age 65. He was born on October 15, 1959 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Larry was a graduate of Porters Chapel Academy where he excelled in athletics and earned all-conference honors in varsity football. He had a lifelong career in the electrical trades. A proud and skilled journeyman with IBEW Local 480, Larry brought dedication, precision, and a strong work ethic to every job site. Over the years, he served as a foreman for Tompkins Electric Company, where he led by example and mentored many apprentices who came to deeply respect and admire him. His commitment to excellence, patience in teaching, and willingness to share his knowledge left a lasting impression.

Beyond his professional life, Larry was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He married the love of his life, Debbie, on March 16, 1985. They shared decades of partnership, laughter, and enduring love. Together they raised two children, Hannah and Nick, whom Larry loved dearly and supported with unwavering pride. He took great joy in their accomplishments and remained their steady source of guidance and strength.

Larry was a man of quiet strength and deep roots. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life — spending time on the beach, hunting, and sharing the company of his loved ones and pets. He enjoyed staying active and running in both local and regional 5K, 10K, and half-marathon races with the finish line and after party being his favorite parts of the events. A loyal fan of Ole Miss, he loved cheering on the Rebels and making sure everyone had a football season schedule. He was a skilled handyman and could often be found fixing things around the house. Larry’s love for God and country was evident in the way he lived his life. He showed Christ-like love to family, friends, and all he encountered.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Barrett; his daughter, Hannah Barrett; his son, Nick Barrett; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard "Buddy" Whatley; his mother, Patsy Whatley; his sister, Kimberly Whatley; and his brother, Ricky Whatley.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humility, and love — values that live on in the family he cherished and the lives he touched. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Larry's memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
