Leon Austin Henry, Sr.

Leon Austin Henry, Sr, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to his eternal home on March 7, 2023.  He joins his beloved wife of over 71 years, Modena Henry, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2023. 

 Mr. Henry was born on August 1, 1927, in Rawhide, Mississippi, to Tom and Florence Henry.  He grew up with his brother, Thomas, on a close, hard-working farm and cattle business. Leon loved his family and was always grateful to live and work with family.  In fact, he never lived over a mile from where he was born and died, and he would have had it no other way.  The pillars of his life were faith, family and farming.  Mr. Henry never took life’s blessings for granted and lived humbly and honorably throughout all his years. 

Mr. Henry married the love of his life, Modena Ray, on June 24, 1951, at the Henry Family Home.  They would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this year. God was gracious in allowing him to be reunited with her in their Heavenly home just a few weeks after her passing. They are survived by their two sons Leon Austin Henry, Jr. and Michael Ray Henry and wife Dixie; his grandchildren, Anya Rae Keen (Jim) and David Austin Henry (Holly); and his great grandchildren, Will Keen, Lorelei Keen and Nevel Oberlander. 

Mr. Henry was a man of deep and abiding faith and a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church in Vicksburg.  He lived out his faith quietly but consistently and treated others with respect and fairness, whether friend or stranger. 

Pallbearers will be Dudley Corner, Edward (Bud) Douglas, James Henry, Quint Mason, Mike Reames and Randall Williams.  Honorary pallbearers are Aaron Crafton, Charles Henry, Eddie Henry, Ike Henry, Maxie Henry, Tann Hollingsworth, Tal Irby Dave Jones, Chuck Joyce,  Jeffrey Ray and Jeff Skipper.   

The services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Glenwood Funeral Home with burial in Edwards Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service. Reverend Jimmy Henry will officiate.
