Mrs. Lillian Brooks Martin, 88, of Vicksburg, MS went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 22, 2024. She died of a lengthy illness at Vicksburg Convalescent Home where she was a resident.
Lillian was born in Anguilla, MS on March 9, 1936. She was the daughter of Gertrude Jones Brooks and James Robert Brooks. Lillian was a nurse at Mercy Hospital and old Vicksburg Hospital. She later worked at All Saints School, Anderson Tully and International Paper as a nurse. Her passion was caring for people, and she served her life caregiving for loved ones until she had a stroke and was no longer able. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Martin, Sr., daughter Kimberly Martin Stribling, infant daughter Kim Lanette Martin and infant son Richard Wayne Martin, brothers Johnny Brooks and Billy Brooks, sisters Yvonne B. Winstead and Viola B. Sanderson and three brothers-in-law James Winstead, David Daniels and Ray Sanderson.
Survivors include her sons Vernon Martin, Jr. (Cheryl) and Donald G. Martin (Renee) and one daughter Karen L. Martin, sister Faye Brooks Daniels, brother Neil Brooks (Rebecca), sister-in-law Judy Brooks, two grandsons, six granddaughters, one great-grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and many family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 for family and friends.
Lillian’s family would like to extend special thanks to Vicksburg Convalescent Home Second Floor nurses and staff and Dr. Barnes, her niece Tammy Boolos, also Linda Slaughter, a caring and compassionate caregiver who loved her dearly, and all former caregivers.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
