Margaret Selden Obituary

Margaret Selden passed away on November 23, 2025, at the age of 97.

Margaret was born on September 29, 1928, the daughter of Samuel E. and Ollie Mae Thedford Starnes. She graduated in Port Gibson in 1946. She grew up attending Brandywine United Methodist Church until she moved to Port Gibson and became a lifelong member of Port Gibson Baptist Church. She was a member of the Friendship Club and enjoyed good fellowship. She was an avid member of the senior chair exercise group. She loved her yard and worked in it every day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Nash C. “Pete” Selden, five brothers Bernice, Dennis, Dewitt, Donald Ray and Billy Joe Starnes, and two sisters Pauline Horn and Bonita Loper.

She is survived by her sons Ronny Selden (Virginia) and John Selden, daughter Peggy Van Norman, grandchildren John Austin Selden, Holly Setser, Garnet Van Norman and Mace Turner and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Brandywine United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Charles Gammel. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Shelton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Austin Selden, John Thomas Setser, Scott Van Norman Parkin, Richard Starnes, Randy Starnes, Ted Starnes, Garnet Van Norman, III and Robert Starnes. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Starnes, Don Starnes, Roy Starnes, Newton Starnes. Willie Kilcreast and Lance Jordan.
