Mary Evelyn Pugh Brown

Mary Evelyn Brown went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ peacefully on 8 June 2026, surrounded by her Daughters and Granddaughters, at the age of 80. Mary was born on 15 June 1945 in Louise, MS. Daughter of the Late Ernest Edward Pugh and Willie Elodis “Bill” Dedmon Pugh. She was the youngest of 6 children. Mary graduated from H.V. Cooper High School in Vicksburg MS. Jun 2, 1964. She married the love of her life on Dec. 16, 1967, Douglas Edwin Brown. 59 years of Love and Happiness. They began their life together in Vicksburg, where Douglas built a beautiful home for Mary, Christy, and Rhonda. Mary always wanted to be a home maker, and she was able to be at home most of her life to raise her girls. In later years, she began working at TG&Y as the Customer Service Manager, then George Carr Dealership as the Service Writer, where her bubbly bigger than life personality was a gift to her coworkers and customers daily. She was beautiful inside and out, never met a stranger and made many life-long friends. Mary left George Carr to spend quality time with her grandchildren, just as she did with her girls. She loved to cook for everyone that visited her home. Her 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren sat on her kitchen counter and learned to make cookies and cakes with her. The things that made her the most happy were simple; SBN Church, her Family, cooking, crab legs with lots of butter, kitchen gadgets, Christmas with family, the moon and stars, and special gatherings with family and friends. She was very adventurous. It was nothing for her to go zip lining, jet skiing, paddle boarding, tubing, etc. all the way into her 70’s. She was always ready to go have fun. Through her eyes, everything was beautiful and she loved everyone “dearly”. Mary and Doug’s favorite pastime was fishing and working in their yard together. They attended church regularly and spent time with their friends and family, especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary adored and treasured each one of them. Her family was her life. Mary’s core values were always guided by her heavenly father and his word. She raised her children and grandchildren in the same manner. First and Foremost, Mary loved God and spent her whole life reading and studying the Bible and worshipping Jesus Christ as a Mother, Wife, Grandmother, and ChaCha. Mary loved talking to friends and family on the phone, which often lead to hours of bible study and discussion of Bible Prophecy coming to past. She was an avid Spiritual provider for her family. Her strong faith in the Lord was the blueprint for her being a strong Mother, Wife, Grandmother, and Friend. When difficulties arose, she always turned to the Lord in prayer for herself and others. Mary’s legacy of love will live on in all who knew her. While we mourn her passing, we celebrate a life beautifully lived. We rejoice in the promise that we will meet her again. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Willie “Bill” Pugh. Her Loving Husband Douglas E. Brown; her siblings, Madeline Pugh Grant and Ricky Pugh. And her Grandmother, Mandy Dedmon. To cherish her memory, Mary is survived her two daughters, Christy Brown Davidson (Brad), and Rhonda Brown DuBois; her sisters Faye Jeffers, Lovie Bailey, and Debbie Pugh, her brothers Rev. Leonard Pugh, Kimbel Pugh, Kenny Pugh, and Leon Pugh. Her grandchildren, Ryan DuBois (Sara), Kelsey Matherne (Tyler), Tucker DuBois (Kali), Bradi Davidson (Dalton) and Christopher DuBois; her great grandchildren, Emma Kate Matherne, Brooklyn DuBois, Bryce DuBois, and Braxton DuBois; and many other in-laws, nephews, nieces, and life-long friends that her loved dearly. She created deep bonds that will be cherished forever. Pallbearers will be Brad Davidson, Tucker DuBois, Christopher DuBois, Ryan DuBois, Bill Jeffers, Dalton Creel, Tyler Matherne, and Kimbel Pugh. Honorary Pallbearers are Rev. Leonard Pugh Sr, Leonard Pugh Jr., Lanny Patterson, Alan Cheney, Jason Cheney, Ken Grant, Sid Leist, Chip Tweedle, Robert Bufkin, Robby Bufkin, Jimmy Bailey Jr, Wayne Pugh, and Mike Pugh, and Eddie Embry. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00am. At Cedar Hill Cemetery. All family and friends are invited. The family would like to thank Pastor Dale Usey from Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, LA for coming to speak at graveside. Dr. Sam Pierce, Dr. Paul Pierce, NP Bailey Ford, the ER nurses and staff at Merit Health River Region in Vicksburg MS. Dr. Zachary Baldwin, the ER, ICU staff and nurses at St. Dominics Hospital in Jackson MS. Glenwood Funeral Home for making all the arrangements. And all family and friends for their continued prayers.
