Mary Byrnes Ireland passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving daughters at her home in Carlisle, MS.
She was born to the late Pearl Moulder and Agustus M. Byrnes on January 11, 1939, in Claiborne county, MS.
Mary will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, Grandmother, and dedicated friend to the community. She was a member of Midway Church of Christ and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Delta State University, where she earned her degree in elementary education.
Always an adventurer, she taught from the shores of the Mississippi Gulf Coast to the mountains of Alaska and back home to Claiborne County.
In her official capacity as a teacher, she expanded the horizons of many young minds. Former students described her best: Giving, Kind, Caring, Loving & Humble. As a true teacher she encouraged all to aspire to their highest calling in life. Her dedication to Christ guided her hands to bring forth fruit that would touch the world. She left a part of her loving gracious kindness with each life she touched. Be it family, friend, or teacher she truly exhibited God’s command to love and give freely.
Mary was preceded in death not only by her parents and her stepfather W. G. “Shorty” Greer, but her brothers Mac Byrnes, Billy Byrnes, sister-in-law Marion Byrnes, brother-in-law Rodney Terrebonne and nephews Scott Byrnes, Luke Byrnes and Stephen Greer.
She is survived by her daughters: Pamela Ireland (Scott Strain), Mary Ashton Ireland (Garret Findley), Nita Roy Ireland (Bubba Guillory) her beloved grandchildren: Ein Findley (Beth) and Kaytlin Strain, siblings: Wiley Greer Jr., Dale Terrebonne, Mark Greer, Sister-Cousin Kay Bilbro and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation and service will be Saturday June 29, 2024, at Midway Church of Christ, 1005 Midway Road, Utica, MS 39175. Visitation begins at 8:30 to be followed by the service at 10:30. Interment will be at the Byrnes Family Cemetery off Neal Road in Carlisle, MS. Pall Bearers are Ein Findley, Scott Strain, Garret Findley, Bubba Guillory, John Parham Watkins, Evan Watkins, Joseph McCalman and Herschel Byrnes.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the caregivers and family that took excellent care of Momma. Memorial gifts may be made in honor of Mary Ireland to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Midway Church of Christ.
